I agree on the absurd. Would think it’s worth about 1/3 of the asking price. |

Putsz congratulations on a good buy that is one nice gun and even better that it shoots good for you .
And yes what was the asking price of that white gun it was sold when I checked up on it earlier.

A nut such as that, would make for a very happy squirrel indeed. Nice find.
The bore measurements you mention sound like those of a "Russian" skeet choke. These recessed (or "jug") chokes were originally made famous by the Russian skeet team long ago. Some guns did come from the factory with these chokes, basically a short (often 6") back bored section behind the muzzle which allowed the shot charge to expand in diameter before being "choked" back down.
These chokes also have a reputation of being more reactive to component changes than traditional chokes, meaning that the differences in pattern percentage/ spread brought about by changes in velocity or shot hardness were more substantial.
I once upon a time cut recessed chokes in a few guns to either add some degree of choke effect to a cylinder bore or to increase the choke effect/ tighten patterns in a choke bored barrel. It is a very tedious process when performed by hand. |

That 870, if the one I am thinking of, was listed for $2995. The same guy has another one listed it at $2495...also absurd. It's not good news for the average guy looking for good bird gun when stuff like this sells for ridiculously inflated prices. The 870 has always been the "every man's gun", but that may be over. We'll see if sanity returns to the market soon (likely). |

Wow, that must have been a very rare bird to command that price.
Found this image of choke styles, "F" depicts most whats in this barrel...

That Skeet #1 on the diagram is like the SKEET choke used by Remington on their Sportsman and Model 31 and 32 Skeet Guns in the 1930s and 40s. probably continued into later Remingtons with SKEET choke. Pretty much the same as Winchester's WS-1 and what Savage called Skeet Cylinder in their A.H. Fox skeet guns. |

Something new everyday, interesting, it seems to work, that 28-30" pattern of 7/8oz #8's was very evenly distributed, hard to believe anything flying through that cloud.
OW, I happened into the Dundee store after a hunt and there it was. Happened once before as well, found one of my favorite Goose guns in the used rack while on the road and needed a break. Fun stuff... |
