Do you have a budget? I have found three of them for people in the last two years.

I'll be honest. I don't know what the going price is yet, because I haven't seen one advertised. Can you give me an idea?

I would agree that one in As New Condition will bring $5,000. I got one for a guy for $4,000 and one for $4,400 but that was a couple of years ago. I know where there are two both Like New with the original boxes. Both 30". I think all the 525 Sporters in 16 were Grade III which these are. The Field grade ones bring much less.

Thanks for the updates! I would be looking for a field grade if they came with a 30 in barrel. Might consider a 28 in. If not we'll just see what comes up one day. I wouldn't shoot the gun enough to justify putting out 4+ K.

When field grades come up, they are usually much lower in price. A limited number of 525 16 gauge Sporting Models have been made, which makes them more rare and pricy.

I was lucky (comparatively) when I bought mine. It was new in the box (old inventory) with the price sticker still on it. $2,895.00. I bought a Green Browning Leather and Canvas hard case for it and some extra Browning Midas Chokes and it is a set up that I really like.

For what it is worth, here is a field grade 28 inch gun for less than 3k. Not mine.

Anyone have an idea of the production numbers for the 525 Sporting 16 ga. I have heard of them, but never seen one in real life!

525 Sporting Models were limited production. The guy that used to sell all the 16 gauge guns, (can't think of his name at the moment and he passed on a number of years ago) used to order runs of these, like the specialty runs from Creek Outfitters etc. My understanding was that the last run was of 75 28", 75 30" and 75 32", but that was probably the third time they were run. So in any case, less than 1,000.

I think the guy you're talking about was Bill Hanus. He was the guy I bought my first 16 from and really championed the gauge. He did unfortunately pass some time ago. I bought a really nice Browning Field with 28" barrels from him. I remember him having some sporting versions but that wasn't my interest at the time. That was then and this is now and I'm too looking for a heavier long barrel 16 for some sporting fun. There isn't much out there. Rizzini makes a few in the reasonably priced tier and then there is Perazzi and a few in the upper tier. I'm strictly referring to stacked barrel varieties. Has any one checked to see if the new Upland Gun Company would build one for the purpose?
