Cool Hi all just thought I'd get some opinions on what you think is a good (perhaps ideal) weight on a 16 SxS, 26-28" barrels, POW stock, semi-beavertail forend should be. And if you like why.

Thanks!!!

God Bless!!

Greg

Greg - there is a long thread on this subject in the General Dicussion category. But I like 6 - 6.5lbs for a 16ga.

Weight is in the eye of the beholder. I like light guns under 6 lbs but with that comes more recoil so you will probably want to look for a light recoil load. Then again, how many times will you be shooting it compared to a trap or skeet gun. Does a bigger bump in the shoulder make up for carrying around a heavier gun all day - that's up to you. Also controlling your swing with a light weight gun can affect some folks. My opinion is light weight (under 6lbs), but everyone is not built the same nor has the same needs in a shotgun.

My Bruchet/Darne with 65cm barrels weighs 6# 1oz. Targeted weight was under 6#'s but its close enough. With GameBore 2.5" Brit shells with fiber wads, it is fine to shoot and kills the birds.-Dick

Harry Marx imports a Grulla SLE made to his specs.
They are 28 3/8", semi BT, straight grip and in 16ga they run about 6-8 to 6-10.

5 to 5 1/2 pounds in the field, can tolerate a tad more on the clays/skeet course, like up to 6 1/2 lbs..... even then, I take the 5 pounder for over half of my clays shooting.... I like 'em really, really light..... Smile

I never held a 16 that was too light.

Depends upon the use. Field guns in the range of 6 to 6-1/4 pounds are common and useful. Under 6 pounds harder to find. Clay shooting and longer range shooting: I do much better with a heavier gun. My compromise is a six and a quarter pound grouse gun and a six and nine ounce longer range gun both balanced the same, but with more choke in the later. I've shot 2 sub six pound 16's in the last year and they were nice to hold but were a terror to shoot. Particularly a box or two at the range.
