Help !

Can someone explain, or provide a sketch as to how the bushings should be set in a vintage Browning Sweet 16.

I shoot 2 different loads - 1 ounce target loads, and 1-1/4 ounce hunting loads.

I saw one diagram that was hard to read, and watched a couple of YouTube videos which really didn’t help. I have a friend (who owns a vintage Sweet 16) who tried to help, but working together we couldn’t get it to function. So I have a gun that’s out of service, and I want to get back to busting some clay pigeons with it.

For magnum and high velocity loads-assuming everything is off the magtube the spring goes on first then the one piece ring with the flat side against the spring, then the 2 piece bronze friction ring with the beveled side up, then the barrel ring on top of it all. If the gun will function this way with 1oz loads, leave it. If not, the only thing that changes is the one piece ring goes on the mag tube first with the flat side against the spring. And then theres the amount and type of oil argument Wink

Thanks Jason! No problem Bill. I might be imagining it, but it seems like I've read here or elsewhere that the only reason for putting the 1 piece ring on first for light loads is just to keep you from otherwise losing it. Wink

That is correct about the steel ring, Carl. I’ve shot light loads with the steel ring on my workbench.

Take a 3M abrasive pad and clean the OD of the Mag tube.
clean with Hoppe's and dry.

If you have replaced the friction pieces and rings and spring, Oder them up and replace the old.

If you have an empty Hoppe's oil bottle, clean and fil with denatured alcohol and let dry, then fill with Mobil 1 synthetic oil [10w30 or 10W40] your choice, AND use this bottle to put three drops on the mag tube OD and hand cycle the recoil system to spread the lubrication film.
You should have great cycling no matter which setting [as appropriate] use.

Doing this I can enjoy trap with my 12ga MAG A5, using a standard recoil spring and my trap loads and get proper cycling.
