Yesterday i was looking for something to watch during one of our recent monsoons and saw a show with Rick and Julie cant remember the name of the show. She had what looked like a new Sweet 16 with her so I continued. Sure enough it was one and she loaded it with Browning shells too. Of course Browning is their sponsor. Anyway she shot a bird but it sailed off, the one that had been with it came back and she handed the gun to her husband who killed that one too. They found her bird and it all ended well. Maybe just maybe the 16's will start getting a little more exposure.

Soggy socks,

Missed that show but it sounds like a good one, I do prefer good SXS L.C. Smith double guns but a Browning will do!

all the best,

A 16 gauge TSS or Hevishot load would be an immediate game changer.

I have been using my 16 gauge 870 for the past 6 years for spring turkey. 1 1/4 oz. of buffered lead #5's gets it done. No need for expensive non-toxic shot.

The target is the head/neck on a stationary target, penetration really isn't an issue. All that is needed is a reasonably dense pattern.

1.25 ounces of lead shot is more than adequate for turkeys. IMHO the multi size, buffered, exotic metal turkey loads that are $5 each or so are a marketing scheme.

I’ve killed more turkeys with lead than nontox, but that nontox allows smaller size shot with lots of energy. Sure fills a lot of holes in a pattern. And, at $5 a shot, it would take a lot of dead turkeys to break the bank. Peace of mind is worth $5 to me. JMO. All good.

While I haven’t shot tss at turkeys I have shot Winchester long beard xr’s at them and pattern boards and they are very impressive. I just wish they made that shell in 16 gauge.

I ant ever imagine needing a higher performance ammo than Winchester xr’s.
