I pulled the trigger on a new setter pup in June, seeing as how my other setter Briar is twelve now and slowing down quite a bit. His name is Nigel, and I got him from a breeder in Georgia. His grandfather is Erin's Hidden Shamrock, 2017 American Field US Open field trial champion, and the sire is Erin's Wild Atlantic Way. Very confident little guy, sweet, smart, and should be a heckuva chukar dog here in Oregon. Can't wait to start some bird training soon. He's 14 weeks old now. Took him to a field trial here locally last weekend, just to let him experience something new. Here are a few pics, including one of his grandfather:

Perfectly lovely.
Few can resist the proper lines of a good setter. |

Nice looking dog. Has the elder dog shown acceptance? |

Very nice looking pup. Sounds like he's got the breeding to be a great one. |

He is a handsome little guy, I'm sure he will come along nicely. I have an 8 yr old and 2 4 year old female setters--but it still just kills me looking at pups and wanting another. BTW, I have been shooting that unique Parker PH 16 that you fixed for me. I havent posted any pictures yet, as I may write it up for the Parker Pages magazine. When do you start chukar hunting out there. |

Not really. In fact, he had a bit of a nervous breakdown, so my wife had to take him to work for a couple days to get him some alone time away from the pup. He needs lots of attention, walks, and reassurance. Not what I was hoping for, but it is what it is. Hopefully it will improve over time. |

Sounds good. Our season starts the first week of October. Hunting isn't really good until November or December though. Early season, birds are down low near water and harder to find and pin down. Later on, after it cools and we get some rain, the cheat grass goes into green up, and the birds move up onto the ridge tops, flats and draws, where they are easier to find. |

The dynamics between a pup and an older dog can be a challenge. I've got male GSP's and currently have an 11+ year old, a 7 year old and a pup that just turned 1 year old last month. When I got the 7 year old as a puppy, he and the then 5 year old bonded immediately and played together every opportunity when out of the kennel. When I got the new pup last year, the then 10 year old just ignored it or gave a low growl when the pup made a move toward him. The middle dog, however, just bonded the moment he laid eyes on the pup and they've been best buds ever since. The old dog now tolerates the pup, but really still doesn't have much interaction at all. I suppose I should just be happy that the three male dogs don't try to kill each other. |

Give Nigel an ear rub from me and of course give Brier one too. |

Beautiful pup/ EHS throws style for days. I hope your puppy is blessed with such.
I have a grandson of shamrock too. He was sired by T's Nickleback. The pup is only a year old but I like him so far. I don't think he is as handsome as yours. |

Beautiful pup with good breeding. I just picked up two puppies, the mother being out of Shamrock lines as well, he has a good reputation.
Coincidentally the breeder owns Nickleback so I got a chance to see him as well, did you get your puppy from Bruce? |
