Am trying to come up with (very) low recoil load to shoot skeet with. The gun in question is a beautiful but light weight SxS Kasuga (a fine example of Tokyo Best).
After having looked through many of the posts on this forum and checked out what I have or can get readily I've come up with the following.

2.5" Chedite hull (primered).
BPI SG16S (short) wads.
18-18.5 gr Unique powder.
7/8 oz No. 8 shot.

What say you?
Many thanks in advance.

That will work fine but the light loads of unique will be a bit dirty in leaving stuff in the bore. Green Got or International require less powder per load and shoot very clean. About 16gr of either powder works great with 7/8oz loads. My favorite target loads in my featherweight LC Smith doubles.

What a fun dilemma…a nice SxS in hand, and (hopefully) a ready supply of suitable reloading components, lacking only a sound recipe for all around usage!

Your proposed load sounds fine. A chrono reading should confirm, and maybe your shoulder as well. If you don’t have a chronograph, your local range should have one, and probably some folks eager to assist. Honestly, anything between 1100 FPS and 1300 FPS will put you in the ballpark, given Unique’s flexibility.

As for Unique, it’s great stuff. Yes it leaves a dustpan-full of crud in the barrel and bellows out a thick cloud of oily blue smoke, but the load exits the muzzle right smartly and clobbers whatever target you pointed it at each and every time. And the wind will blow the smoke away, and a quick swipe of the bore will leave it mirror bright, so it’s all good in the end.

Good Luck
B.

My favorite low recoil load is this one:

RGL or WWCF hull
5/8 oz lead shot
15.5 gr. of Promo (or Red Dot, or 700-X)
DR 16 wad
Win 209 primer

I never sent it in for testing, but it's real mild and breaks clay targets.
