This is a pic from a private seller on the net. He's only selling the receiver. ($50) This is the exact same shape as mine, all cuts and details the same.
Notice the cross pin positions. They're oriented differently than other
(later model?) 311's that I've seen photos of.
Is this the "first model" / early series of receivers?
Also notice the length of the beveled part under the Springfield logo. It looks longer on this model than other (later?) 311 models.
This is the stamped insignia on the hinge point of the barrel on my gun.
"S" for Stevens? How about the "P" and "T?" Proof tested?
Can we say "early 1950's" manufacture for certain?
Thanks for all the great info. |

FN,
Could be anytime late '40's through the '50s. Savage moved to Chicopee Falls in '46.

Looks like mine, only mine reads new England arms, but has the same "proof" on the lump that yours does..... |

Without the date code, I am still certain that yours is pre 49'
I am leaning now towards the Stevens 315 vs. the 335.
I would have to agree with a previous poster that the circled 8 is an inspectors mark, and has nothing to do with the date.
If you could figure a way to get a pic up. I think you have to go to a picture hosting site like photobucket, then add a link. |
