Those are English #6 which equals American #7
http://www.hallowellco.com/shot_size_chart.htm
Nice shells with fiber wads. They seem quieter because of the fiber wads, so much so that when I tried a box of them at trap the other shooters thought I might have had bloopers or misfires. They work fine. I stocked up on them when Beans had them on clearance pre-corona. This particular shell appears to have been discontinued by the manufacturer some time ago, well before corona came to town. |

That's true, so far as it goes. In this case, it's no help to understanding because it's irrelevant.
The seller put up a link to a different shell, also made by Gamebore, the "Regal Game" shells. They come in a black and grey box. Those do put out 1400 fps, use so-called "diamond shot", something I guess is proprietary to Gamebore.
https://gamebore.com/uk/cartridge/game/16g-regal-game
The shells being sold on Gunbroker are Gamebore's "Traditional Game". They come in a yellow box. That's an entirely different shell. One will not find a link to them on Gamebore's site (or pretty much anywhere else). That's because Gamebore discontinued making them 5 or so years ago. There's no way the "Traditional Game" put out 1400 fps, though. I've shot them through my 5.5 pound French 16 and can attest they have very little recoil - less even than RST's "Lite" shells I ordinarily use in that gun. If they were throwing 1 ounce of shot at 1400 fps through that light of a gun, I'd have noticed.
At $10-12/box in normal times, they're fairly priced. At $20+ (which is where they'll wind up after adding in shipping), meh. |

I believe you will find that the 1400 FPS is actually a muzzle velocity.
Diamond shot is very round lead shot with a reasonably high antimony which is screened to keep the sizes more uniform than the typical +/- .005" and then polished. It is supposed to be some really good stuff. |

JustChris,
Those traditional shells are not bad, however they are not SpredR's and the patterns out of my L.C. Smith guns are pretty tight with them. I do like the 1262 FPS and the decent recoil however.
all the best,

Listened to the September Orvis podcast over the weekend. Apparently, BOSS shotshells has plans to load and introduce 2 1/2 inch shells in the future. These will be copper-plated Bismuth nontoxic. |

I bet those will be priced steeply. Has anyone used Bismuth on grouse? How does it perform? I like nickel plated 7’s and have quite a bit loaded for the grouse woods. The problem is I shoot my Iside 20 too well to carry anything else lately. I may need to get one in 16 but don’t have the cash, just my A400 Excel to trade or sell, and maybe some others. |

Swampy16,
The RST Bismuth patterns real well out of my L.C. Smith guns, the latest L.C. Smith 16 purchase out of Texas, is a real beauty of a double gun, choked Full and Extra Full for shooting Ducks & Pheasants in Texas. I believe RST still has some Bismuth left in 16 on the RST web sight, it is expensive however.
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave

Good to know but I hope nontox never becomes mandatory. I’ll try to email you pics of the two grouse I got this weekend. |

Swampy16,
I sell other guns, but never anything from our L.C. Smith collection. I made a Christmas gift of a 1913, 16 gauge L.C. Smith Hammer gun a few years back to another Grouse hunter, and Gifted a 16 gauge, pre 13 L.C. Smith Hammerless with Krupp barrels, to my Nephew for his Grouse hunting. Have never sold or traded any of our L.C. Smith guns, not even a Field grade.
Once any of our family decides to purchase an L.C. Smith gun, the gun stays in the family collection, and is passed down thru the family from generation to generation.
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave

Latest 1911, 16 gauge Filed Grade purchase out of Texas. Gun has DT, real nice Walnut Wood, Perfect 28" Barrels inside & out, Choked Full & Fuller for Texas Ducks & Pheasants. Patterns real well with RST & Poly SpredR shells for Grouse. Traditional RST & Poly 6's for Pheasants & jump shooting Ducks along Pine Creek. Side Locks have been blued for Texas Duck hunting. I can live with the non original perfect Blue job, it was done very nicely. It's a 1st in our collection however.
