Has any other doubles been built with the 3 position safety the LC's have . It took me a long time to realize how they worked - neat enough !!! I have only limited experience with too many other doubles , but these are the only ones I've ever run into this safety feature . It's the same on the old Damascus gun and the Light field I have . ( how this works is ; middle is ON safe , forward fires , but returns to safe when opening the breach , and rear position stays on fire and doesn't return to safe on opening , ie trap shooting )

The early version of the Miller Single Trigger has a 3 position safety on the top tang: push forward and it selects one barrel, pull back and it selects the other barrel, in the middle is "safe".

Well . . . the 3-positions of the LC and the Baker Batavia Leader select significantly different functions from that of the Miller Single Trigger selector. The Remington 3200 swinging safety has 3 positions of the same function as that Miller selector: Left, Right and Center, for Lower first, Upper first and Safe, but the swinging implementation is unique and make it very handy. Plus you can quite easily take the lever off for dedicated target shooting. If safety and selector position count is important, Berettas, Brownings and lots of others mix barrel selection with safety function, and have 4 positions: either barrel first, safe on or safe off -- not nearly as slick as the 3200.

The LC and the Baker are different and interesting in that you can lock the safety off so easily. I think it is a really useful feature, but probably the lawyers of today would be all over it -- not idiot proof enough. Idiots are ingenious and more are made every day, and personal responsibility for results is certainly out of fashion.

Some of the earlier model Ithaca doubles had the three-position safety.

Right. My 1900 Crass has this style safety as does my 1904 Lewis.
