Here is one that doesn't come along too often.

https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-for-sale-online/shotguns/remington-shotguns-pump/remington-870-bdl-16-gauge.cfm?gun_id=101761511

In the early years of the Model 870 the entry-level gun was the Model 870 AP "Standard" Grade with a plain stock and the small ringed slide handle.

Then there was a "DeLuxe" series, ADL and BDL, with machine checkered wood, large slide handle and matted barrel standard.

The AP grade sold for $98 bucks in Canada back in the day I still have one in 16 gauge with mod and full barrels . The BDL sold for $150 nice smooth guns.

Agree w/MSM2019, always something to glean from your posts, thank you.

Sweet machine indeed, the stocks right down to the checkering look very similar to whats on a couple of my S48's.

From the October 1950 Remington Arms Co., Inc. that introduced the Model 870.

Even much rarer would be the Model 870 BC "Special" Grade. I have only seen one BC ever.

What is the difference between and ADL and BDL? I love the matte top, but the checkering pattern on the stock is not to my taste (and neither is the V3 checkering, which looks to be kind of modeled after it) and I've always preferred a corn cob fore-end to the "beavertail". Also, $1250?!?

The BDL had slightly better wood than the ADL. When introduced the prices were --

Model 870 AP $69.95
Model 870 BC $81.45
Model 870 ADL $79.95
Model 870 BDL $91.45

Its interesting to me that Remington offered all those different options the very first year the Model 870 was introduced.

Also do we know why it was called the "870"?

Thanks for sharing
