Hi all,
I need to load up some 1 1/8 oz pheasant loads for an upcoming trip out west.
I have 800-x and some 20/28, and I'd like to use some purple, Federal "game load" hulls.
My question...what hull data should I use? The Hodgdon site shows data for
"Federal High Power paper basewad". Nothing else, other than Gold Medal hulls.
The Fed Game Load hulls "look" like they have a plastic base wad, but I cannot be sure. Anyone have experience with this?
Also...I have some once-fired old Winchester "Duck and Pheasant" hulls. Can I use the data for Winchester X-Pert Plastic Shells"?
Thanks! |

ALL Federal 16 ga. hulls currently are paper based.
If you have 800-X that is an excellent choice for 1 1/8 oz. loads. Follow the Hodgdon data, it is a great choice. |

Ya...I've been using it for years. I'm just not sure what data to use for these particular hulls.... |

The very best thing you can do is cut each of the hulls down you are asking about and matching them up to pics in Lyman 5th or posting the pics here. Writing on the outside of the hulls doesn't mean much. |

Here's the load I use with federal hulls, from the lyman book. 22 grs 800x, federal 209a, remington sp 16. I usually have to put about 3/4 of a cheerio in the shot cup to get the right shot column hight. Velocity according to the book is 1235. Pressure 9000. |
