While elk hunting this year, I had a long chat with one of the guides assigned to monitor the ranch area we were hunting in. He related how the blue grouse numbers were way up this Fall, so much so that they had taken birds where they'd never been seen before. Made me think that before I head back to the North Country again next year, a side trip for Blues might be a good warm-up in early September. Maybe even a little casting and blasting? One must have things to look forward to, after all.
Merry Christmas to everybody from dry and mild Colorado! |

Are you thinking of hitting some high mountain streams while chasing blue grouse next year Lloyd? That sounds like a load of fun.
The area I go to for my yearly pa'tridge pilgrimage has a load of native brook trout streams that I would love to hit mid-day, but trout season is closed by that time. So I just look at them and promise myself 'll come back in the summer to fish them, but I never do.
I bet a 7' 3wt pack rod, reel and a box of flies in your vest wouldn't weigh you down too much. |

Pretty dry in my part of the world. Would that I could (in Pennsy I could!) but out here it would now be the upper Yampa or the Elkhead rivers. I used to be able to do that on the South Platte and Rampart Range, but both have largely been overrun now. Neither trout nor birds to be had there much anymore. |
