RevDocDrew -- Appreciate very much the info you provided. Those are just the sort of things I want to know. Thanks!
Cheers!

Sent the pictures along to a gunsmith friend, an expat Brit specializing in sxs. He praised it. Some of his comments:
Quote: |
Probably refinished when the nicely done extension was added and it was nitro proofed, which was in Birmingham before 1984. The only people I know who do case colour like that are St Ledger, also B'ingham, and it looks like their barrel browning too. It was all a 'proper job' ....

IMHO if there's enough wall thickness then it should be good to go. There are plenty of loads out there with <8k psi pressure. |

Now it's just a matter of finding someone local with wall thickness guage. I doubt if proofed in the 60s that the barrel thinned over that time. |

Would really like this sold soon. Somebody shoot me an offer. This was appraised in the 4500 to 5000 range by multiple sxs dealers...I honestly just want a smidge more than what they offered to buy it from me. |

If you're in the 570 take it over to Woodcock Hill, Col. Baker can measure it |

Thanks for the tip. I will have to give them a call. They're about 20 mins closer than griffin and howe, and if they can do it, I'd rather stay in PA.
UPDATE: BUYER backed out, but hopefully getting a clean bill of health will help reassure potential buyers |
