Especially to a dealer? Vintage Firearms, Inc. has the lead on this beautiful 870, and I cannot see anything other than condition and a pretty piece of wood to explain the cost. Is it some variety of higher grade that is not readily apparent to this non-collector?

Edited, I thought it was a completed auction. |

Wow, nice looking gun, with I believe the impressed fake checkering. I don’t know why it’s worth $1000 more or less. |

The suggested retail price in 1968 was $129.95 so you could have probably bought it new for $100.
The seller says it is a 1968 gun, but that is the year the penny counters discovered they could save money by replacing an inch of walnut with a recoil pad. That pattern impressed grip decoration (hard to call it checkering!!) first appears on the Model 870 in the 1965 catalog. |

Thats awful nice wood, even for a special grade, much less a field grade. Current high bidder has a 462A+ rating so maybe he knows something we dont??? |

IC is very rare. I know, because I have been looking for years for this exact gun.
I settled for a fixed mod instead, right from this site for less than $800. I want it, but there is no way I am paying that much.
There seems to be two serious bidders.
Maybe I should auction mine?

Pump guns, especially 870’s and some 37’s are very hot right now. Hey, we all know they’re great guns. It’s too bad the general public is finally figuring that out. A 37 Ultra 16 just sold for $1800 or so on GB. 😉 |

"Why would a.....?" Same reason a sheet of plywood would sell for $80-90. Could be a jack@$$ bidder as well, the Mako23 I purchased off ebay several years ago was bid up to well north of $14k for a boat that wasn't worth more than $2k. Luckily the owner and I came to an agreement during the show and watched in amazement as the JA got his jollies wasting everyone's time. |

Why not just buy one and open the chokes. Pretty simple to get what you want. |
