I'm not buy know means a gunsmith but I've been wondering if it is possible a professional smith could sleve and chamber a SX BARREL for 16 ga and modify a bolt to work and function properly.
The super X-1 is a great auto. I think Winchester missed the boat when they never followed thru with their R&D 20 ga to market.

Any speculative answers to the question.

If it could be done and I have my doubts, it would probably be cheaper to buy a M 21 16 gauge or a Perazzi 16ga. Each to their own but I'd prefer either of the 2 guns mentioned. Just my 2 cents worth!

Nick pretty much did that with his DA Browning . He'd have to be the one to tell you what the costs were , but I think he did it all out of his own shop .... Believe the adventure still resides here in his past postings , I'd say around 2009 . Skeettx can find these things way faster than I can .

RL, I've had the 21 u mentioned. The 32: 16 525 I have is my top rated gun for trap and sporting. The 21 just never give me the rush I was looking for. My SX 1 12 GA does but much prefer the 16 ga above all.

This should not be an unsurmountable task.

Enlarge the shell stop, maybe add a bump to the lifter.

Longer extractor and ejector should center the hull

Chamber insert from Lothar Walther
like this

I got mine a LONG time ago to reduce 12 to 16

I built a barrel set for one of my Remington 3200s
So now I have 12, 16, 20, 28, and 410 barrels for it Very Happy

Hardest part was making the ejectors.

I have shot about 1000 shells through it so far, skeet, crazy, doves, and pigeons.

I am intrigued by this work. Its amazing.

Did you make new ejectors, or modify the existing ones?

Thanks

I took pieces and parts of several broken 12 gauge ejectors and then
built them up with welds and then milled, and filed, and milled and filed
and filed, and filed, well you get the idea Smile

Since I have 3 extra barrels for my SX I might consider committing one to R&D home style. But not till spring.
