Hi all,
I need SG16 wads for my 7/8 oz loads but BPI is clean out. A bag of 250 would suit me well. Willing to buy a bag or trade a bag of SG16S straight up.
Thanks

Precision has 20 less bags as of this week, I got them yesterday.
Wonder who bought out all the SG16 wads from BPI....
And the last of the unprimed Cheddite hulls they had. Honestly they didn't have much of either a couple of weeks ago so I grabbed what I could. It is reloading season here this time of year. |

Not to hijack the post, but @cold iron...how do your new chess end up crimp wise? I just did a batch for testing 1oz loads with sg16 wads and they will fit in my sxs, but they don't have the nicest radius with a 6pt crimp. I just have to push a little to get them in my barrels, but I know there's little chance they would run in a semi after some force was needed to work the slide on my ithaca 37.
Does it get easier after 1st firing? |

A geap finish crimper will fix that problem. |

Thanks for that advice. Is a hull vise really necessary to use that finisher or can I just chuck it in a drill and hold the shell in my other hand? |

Pbking51,
You shouldn't have that mushroom at the crimp shoulder if you are using any MEC or Ponsness Warren reloader.
On an MEC single stage machine there is a cam adjustment on the final crimp die. On a MEC progressive there is a finish die that specifically addresses the mushroom problem.
On the 600 Jr. or Sizemaster, it may take a combination of adjusting the cam and the crimp punch depth to get rid of the mushroom. On a progressive all it takes is to lower the finish die a bit. Maybe a 1/4 turn down at a time.
I do not adjust any of my machines for new hulls or multi fired hulls. If it is correct for new hulls it will be perfect for older hulls also.
I have and do reload the green 2 3/4" Cheddites when they are new. |

What MSM2019 said. I use a MEC 9000 and a LOT of new (and old) Cheddite hulls.
I do not change the adjustments for new or once fired hulls. The new hulls on the left are loaded with 7/8 oz. in a DR16 and the purple Cheddite Herters have 1 oz. in a SG16 wad. I make no adjustments when switching from one to another. Could tweak it some to get rid of some of the swirls but I can live with swirls, they have no adverse effect on the hull or finished shell.
They all feed fine in my 37's, semiautos, OU and SxS guns.
Don't know which loader you are using but think you should be able to adjust it to get rid of the mushroom at the end of the shell? I don't treat new hulls any different than OF or more hulls. |

Thanks all. I will play with the cam. I am doing a 6pt crimp and they look like like cold irons. I was thinking the crimps not creating a perfect circle was the issue..kind if like trying to fit a square per in a round hole. |
