[Trap] it's a great way to quickly test a gun to see how it fits and see if you can hit with it

Excellent insight Mark and I totally agree. I’ll go further and suggest the same is true for testing different loads and even components and shot. Trap will expose and magnify subtle differences.

Mike,
Good gun for sure, I use my #5 gun with SST and my Pigeon Gun with DT on the clays course quite a bit, to keep my muscle memory in tact. Then when I am hunting grouse with the L.C. Smith 16 Silver Breech everything just works quicker because the 16 only weighs 6.0lb.
all the best,

Muscle memory is indeed important. I hunted today with my 16 hammer gun, no problem as usual, and then at the end I tried out a new Dickinson 16 I just bought, and when a rooster got up at my feet, I forgot I had to push the safety off. He almost escaped before I figured it out. |

Uncle Dan,
As you can see some guns are a little different, you did a good job recovering and taking your safety off to down your Pheasant. If you had been Grouse hunting that mistake would have cost you a bird for sure. No time when gunning Grouse to try to recover and remove your gun safety, once your muscle memory fails you a grouse gunner seldom recovers in time to down the Grouse. The habitat is usually completely different and the bird puts many trees between the gunner and itself. Nice recovery to shoot the Pheasant however.
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave
