We made our annual spring Woodcock photo safari this past weekend with 9 dogs and 4 guys. All of the pointing dogs pointed birds and both of the flushing dogs flushed some as well. We avoided the raindrops long enough to get some pictures.

Nice photos! Someday I need to hunt these fascinating little birds. |

dap,
We had our annual AWS Tower Shoot fundraiser last weekend in South Jersey. It was organized by Jim Mascola - AKA Jimmie Woodcock! This season was pretty good as far as bird numbers go but my understanding is that the reverse migration is looking fantastic. As I had posted, I bumped 4 just walking around a small area not noted for being a hot spot.
Hunting woodcock can be addictive for sure, the numbers are better than grouse and they are tough to hit in the thick stuff.
I had this Browning O/U customized to honor the bird.

They just arrived on my farm here in the upper midwest. I can hear them "Beent... Beent..." outside right now. |
