I don't reload and won't be going that direction anytime soon.

I do happen to have a few boxes of slugs, so I could definitely go that direction if I find that my would-be shots are too far. Again, I definitely don't want wounded animals. I don't like killing things, really, and definitely don't like wounding things.

Buckshot is overkill for coons , 4-6 shot will do just fine .

If you want save the meat and hide shoot them in the head with a 22lr .

Either way don't over think it , it is pretty dam simple.

Overthinking things is my MO ... it's what I do best. Very Happy I will probably start with 4-6 shot (I have more 6 than 4).

For those suggesting #4 buckshot, please let me know where you're finding factory loads in #4 buckshot. I've never seen or heard of such a load, but I'm far from the most experienced guy. I'd love to know more about the factory #4 buckshot loads you guys are finding. Thanks.

A well directed load of number 4 shot will drop a raccoon quickly and conclusively. Anything much larger than number 2 risks an overly sparse pattern.
