Does anyone use these cheddite 209s in a 16ga RGL for 7/8 or 1 oz? |

No problem in 30,000 + primers---in both o/u and auto. |

Thanks for the replies. Are your recipes from published loads showing pressure or are you just substituting the cheddite 209s where a Win 209 was called for? With what was shown on Trapshooter.com when someone tried that with a 20 ga load with Greendot and when tested ,it came in 2000psi over pressure I'm hesitant to do that any more. |

Greendot on some printed loads is in itself skeptical. Becareful with greendot. |

Appreciate you sharing this info, skeptical & concerning since after a conversation with a tech at PR "no problem swapping W209's & C209's" so have been loading with that mind set for the last few months. The test data that comes back has not given me any reason to question it.
Do you know if the person who shared that info on Trapshooter.com sent in 2 batches of the same load with only a primer swap for a true apples to apples comparison? Or maybe just swapped the primer in questionable data and had it tested alone? |

I certainly would not do it with a load that is at the top end of pressure. But that goes for any primer substitution. |

Had to look for awhile since it was last spring I was working on that project. It was with 20/28,not GD but the overpressure results were the same as noted below
https://www.trapshooters.com/threads/cheddite-primer-swap-test-results.918249/
At the time, I was trying to do the load but in a Rem American Clays hull, also on Alliants site. 15.6 was supposed to be 1200fps with a w209 but the first 3 shots with the cx2000 went 1297,1320,1302 out of my Ithaca 37 and they HURT. Called PR and they said try 15.0. My closest bushing threw 14.5 and still went 1251,1280,1260,1255,1255 over my chrono.Thats where I lost interest. Maybe take it up this winter. |

I see two glaring problems with the primer swap test from the other forum. Crimping depth is not listed and comparison was made with published data rather than actual ammo copying published data but from the same machine/ press. Really these two factors play together as one. Crimp depth affects pressure far more than most people realize; the results can be startling.
Now, if the individual had sent in loads "duplicating" the Alliant published loads, along with the Cheddite primer swapped loads...so that all things were truly equal, then a scientifically accurate comparison could be made since all other variables would be accounted for and nullified.
It is common to see test loads that basically copy published data come out high or low due to a variety of factors, especially crimp depths. MSM2019 can elaborate greatly on this. |
