I was able to get out on Monday, for some late season woodcock hunting in Southern NJ, which is about 1.5 hours from me in Bucks County, PA.. The Season ended Tuesday.

My son and I were able to scratch 4 birds, 3 males and a large female. I used my restored 1931 Fox Sterlingworth 16 and my son used a SIG/B. Rizzini 20. I was using 2.5 inch paper shells from RST, which thankfully I bought a case of about 4 years ago just before covid.

It was a great day but did get a little warm in the afternoon.

Beautiful guns and birds. Would love to hunt for them someday.

ROMAC,

Real nice Woodcock hunt, glad you were able to run over to NJ. Our Woodcock season here in Pa was not very good this year, only shot a few birds, your hunt went well in NJ.

all the best,

Thanks Dave,

The week prior to this hunt we hit the migration just right when we hunted along the Delaware bay. The 3 of us were able to limit out in about 4 hours.

That day my two friends each used 16 gauge Foxes but I opted to use my 26 inch barreled Winchester 21 factory choked cylinder/Modified. I had a box of vintage paper Federal 8's that were begging to to get used up and I had not shot the Winny in a while.

We toasted Saint Hubertus, the patron saint of hunters, when we were done and the guns were put away. If you look closely the dog on the bottle is a twin to my buddies Brittainy.

Was out two hours today following swamps and creeks, but no contacts with Mr. Woodcock…. Crying or Very sad

Greta was working hard, and we had a good time. One of our club members had three contacts in about an hour in the adjacent parcel on this past Sunday. Didn’t want to hunt that parcel as deer season is still in and they were running dogs to push deer there.

I’m going to get out again before the season closes here in a little over a week.

Very nice job Gents, our birds arrived very late here this year, mostly after the season had ended and stayed until the snow drove them out. I was seeing numbers of birds while checking trail cameras in open hardwoods with no dog.

Soggy Socks,

The same thing happened here, finally started seeing a lot of Woodcock after the season ended, very similar to last year.

all the best,
