Well my friends, our Wyoming chukar season is over. Yesterday I was satisfied and ready to call it a season. Today? Yeah, that void is there. The last two days were quite a challenge but when you love doing something this much, especially with the dog, you go. Got the truck stuck, shoveled it out, strapped on snow shoes and trekked the rest of the way in, about a mile, to the chukar slopes. The first day we saw -20 by time we got back to the truck. Day two was nicer and got above zero. Rusty did his thing well and as always saved me considerable trouble with retrieval duties. I even shot one of the birds while still strapped in my snow shoes.

yeah Wyo , you da man !! What Skeettx said about sweating - that's the best workout in the world shoeing thru loose snow ! One of the kids has a Border Collie , he just wears himself out chasing Chippies around camp , much less that much snow in altitude !

Awesome pics! I think that’s the only way I would enjoy snowshoeing.

Goose is still open around here. Today I learned that honkers are a lot easier to hit while wearing snow shoes than chukars are. I scored 5 with the old damascus Parker 10 a lot easier than I thought I would, it was a hoot!

One of the things NICK H used to profess , and practice , was shooting from really odd positions - ie , turned to the right etc . Snow shoes are are good practice thing also . It's a bit of a trick to get them in a pos that allows you to turn enough to shoot without getting them hooked etc . Takes some practice !

Great pictures. The one with the chukars on the snowshoes is my favorite. Way to battle the elements to close out the season.
