At one point over the last year practically NO 16ga ammo was available. Then Federal became readily available, followed by Fiocchi. Win Cheds are now in abundance in Wallymart. Now, a lot of internet sites have Aguila. Anyone ever try them ? Reliability? Shootability, and especially RELOADABILITY ? Do they use a Ched hull ? Ched data ? Just curious?

From my experience with some I found in the bin at the range they are a cheddite hull but they are shorter than the 2 3/4” like they say on the box and are the same length or a bit shorter then the newer black herters 16 ga. Odd length that kinda makes them a pain to reload unless you have a bunch.

Funny you mention about the "new" Herter's. That's right, that's exactly the problem I found about them, SHORT. Why do they do that? What's the big deal about providing the extra few milliliters to make it an actual 2 3/4"? The hell with them.
Right now, Midway has (had) the ChedWins on sale at 12 something.

They make a decent shell. Nothing wrong with them. They reload just fine. You will have to make adjustments. Not the end of the world in my mind. Just glad to see options in 16

The Aguila hulls that I picked up at the vintage shoot measured 2 5/8 just like the fiocchi hulls and R-P hulls. Works great for me since I cut all my hulls that length for my 1924 LC Smith and I don't have to separate them and adjust my crimp die on my press.

I find them a very good cartridge. Clean burning and well put together with nice tight crimps. They work great in my short chambered Model 12 16 bore. Overall great for every thing with the exception of reloading maybe.

I do reload the Chedwins & Fios, have not measured them, yet they seem to work w/o an adjustment. The Nobles, Rios, and Feds also seem to work crimpwise at that same adjustment. In my experience, its been the new Herter's & the Rem blacks that do not like that particular setting. Like has been mentioned, looks like I should leave those Rems & Herter's to the very end, along with these Aguilas, if i should ever get any, and then make the necessary adjustments for them .

I may have to do that as i don't plan on getting anymore of them. I know you have the 2 3/4" Rems. I don't know how the hell i managed to get the few boxes of shorties that they made.
By the way, did you ever find any new 16ga Rem? Still seems to be some turmoil at Remington. They're making everything else, but no 16s.

I believe the 16ga Rems were from Mexico . No telling what may have occurred since the Rem breakup and the connection with Mex .

It is my understanding that Remington set-up the Aguila factory.

Yes Rem has had ties to Aguila since the 60's when they sold their shot tower in Mexico to Aguila. One reason Aguila shells have above average shot in them.

Lucky I have several 16ga loaders. So I keep three set up for specific hulls. 2-3/4, short 2-5/8 and rem & win tapered hulls.

I'd happily take all of those odd length hulls. I trim most of mine to 2 1/2" anyway.
