Lloyd3,
Woolner was definitely not a traditional Grouse hunter of his day, some of his writing I loved, some of his ideas, like using a semi-auto in the Grouse woods, not so much.

What's wrong with using a semi-auto for grouse or any other game for that matter?

Dave is a very confused man. When he says "we" in Potter County do xxxx he must have a mouse in his pocket. He is a Flatlander from outside of Pittsburg that has a cabin in Potter\Tioga County. Just because a cat climbs in the woodstove and has kittens don't mean we call them biscuits back home. Exhibit A why would be Pine Creek. Well Dave that is. I hiked the canyon path along Pine Creek for my 50 miler badge in Boy Scouts. Grew up fishing both big and little Pine and many others. And of course hunting out the backdoor.
He doesn't even know where he is. Under his name for location he lists "Endless Mountains of Pa". Near as I can figure he seen the Endless Mountain Transportation shuttle in downtown Wellsboro one day so thought he was in the Endless Mountains. He is not. Not a ridgerunner either. A tall story teller with a wild imagination of facts and events that never happened, yes. |

Cold Iron,
Having been born in my Great Grandmothers home at 189 West Main Street in Galeton, Pa. I understand people like you, who's family moved into Potter County much later, and wanted to become Potter County residence. I doubt you own any property here now, or ever really did. My Great Grand parents helped start the town of Galeton, after their original home was destroyed by fire, their last name was Fiero. They are buried in the little grave yard just across Pine Creek up on the hill, behind the Log Cabin Restaurant on Rt6, near the log cabin we own on Powder Horn Lane, which was originally Wilson Lane, before it was renamed by the government. You are fighting real hard to become a Potter County resident, attacking me will not make it happen. You are the one that is very confused. Your family was probably from NJ originally.
This thread was suppose to be about Woolner remember.
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave

Shorebird,
Nothing wrong with anybody using what gun they own, traditional grouse hunting has always been done with a SXS double gun here in the USA. Using a semi or a pump gun goes against that tradition. A lot of modern hunters do not care about tradition, I happen to care. Woolner wanted to start his own tradition, which is also ok, just not for me. Heck I do not even use a stack barrel gun to hunt Grouse, its just the way I was raised.
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave

There is no such thing as traditional grouse hunting. There is only grouse hunting. |

Shorebird,
Wrong, Many books have been written about it. Read Spiller, GBE and others.

Griffon,
As a matter of fact when I was a young boy learning how to Grouse & Woodcock hunt, along with a SXS double gun I was dressed in my good clothing, being a small wool suit and pants, with vest and tie, and spit shined boots, with Dobbs dress hat. I am a throw back to my Grandfathers generation, however today I wear the modern Gore-Tex hunting clothing, but still carry the SXS double gun when bird hunting. It is part of our family tradition. Got to say I miss those men and their traditional ways very much, those men were a lot more classy than we sportsman are today.
all the best,
