As tonight is Lundi Gras and I have no idea what state I will be in tomorrow, I take this time to wish one and all a happy Mardi Gras.
from the party country of southern Louisiana,
Chuck
(Actually I will probably still be in the state of Louisiana.) |

1stgun,
We lived in Slidell, La when I worked for NASA/Martin Marietta building the Space Shuttle ET, went to a lot of Mardi Gras parties, have fun and do not drink to much!

For us of Pennsylvanian origin, today - Fat Tuesday - is actually Fastnacht Day.
A fastnacht is a donut - often with potato in the batter, served wither powdered sugar, granulated sugar, or plain. Plain, we often dunk in something called table syrup, which is by-run from molasses refineries.
So, today is Donut Day.
Less of a hangover tomorrow than our southern Mardi Gras-celebratin' friends. . |

Back in the day, this and most other civic, religious, and cultural observances were marked in Detroit and its environs with the muzzle of a shotgun extended out the back door and discharged into the night sky. Doubtlessly16ga loads were well represented. City fathers have since made extensive efforts to extinguish the practice, with not altogether total success, as semi automatic pistols with high capacity magazines have supplanted shotguns today.
