Federal 67mm, CH209, 18 gr Clay Dot, SG16, 1/4"cork wad 3/4 oz #9 Magnum, 3 Airsoft pellets.

Apparently Clay Dot is not a complete equivalent to Clays, though to be fair my Clays load used a 14mm diameter cork wad and these use 13mm dia wad. Other guys at the club say they need about 0.5 gr more to match speeds in a 12 gauge. Either way, I have been using these for practice since I ran out of Clays. Clay Dot also appears to be dirtier, and is definitely harder to meter. I get drops from 17.5 to 19 grains with or without a baffle. All of these drops were measured and the hulls selected for consistency. The pattern is consistent with my Clays load.

Looks like blow-by to me. I may try this with 5/8 oz to see if it jumps up to ~1350. I think Titewad would most likely be a better powder for a 5/8 oz 1350 load. Pattern was obviously tighter.

Dropped the CB078 load down to 5/8, with an extra 28 ga Nitro card in the shot cup. It was a tight fit to get it under the tube. Somewhat dirty. These were straight out of the 9000, no drops were measured:

I might change some things around, like drop a card over the powder instead of 2 in the shotcup. I think an SG16 might work better. I really do not care for Clay Dot, but I'm probably outside the goldilocks zone for it. |
