Getting a new hobby room in the next few weeks, and will be working on setting up for reloading, gun cleaning and light gunsmithing duties.

I'll have room for a 8-10 ft bench, ~28" deep. Plus some storage for Ammo and loading sundries (plus hunting and dog gear).

So I'd like to have the ability to switch out presses on the bench and have one station. I'd also like to have the ability to have no obstruction on the bench if I need the room.

was thinking of constructing the bench to in three layers, with the top and bottom cut outs the needed size to clear the presses, and the middle cut out ~2" bigger on the sides and back.

Then I could have a insert for each press, and a "Blank" for the clean bench when needed. Maybe use a couple of throw bolts underneath to lock in place?

Besides tolerances to make sure the press is snugged up, are there any inherent issues with my thinking? Anyone seen/tried this before? Other suggestions???

Thanks!

I've got Two PW 375's, one Mec Sizemaster, and an RCBS Brass cart press right now.

I simply drill different holes in the bench for the various tools and positions, and feed the bolts upward from underneath. I actually mount the 600 Jr at different angles depending on the task, +30 deg for sizing & priming, -30 deg for loading & crimp. In this manner I get easiest access to the specific station for bulk processing.

Drilling multiple holes solves the mounting option problem. Not terribly elegant but simplicity has its merits. Not sure if this addresses your inquiry but that’s what works for me.

Here is a useful tip. Obtain a cafeteria tray or cookie sheet. Place it beneath your loader when you mount it to your bench.

You will have spills of both powder and shot. The tray will contain the spills and help reduce your contributions to a swear jar.
