BE-86 has become my favorite 45 Colt powder (previously Unique had been my choice for nearly 45 years in both Colt & 16ga). It runs up the pressure a bit faster than Unique with heavy loads in the 45 Colt so shot loads many make that happenn even faster. But if someone figures out a safe load with good patterns, I'd sure use it in my 16s.

I got some more data back from Tom.

First the good news.
20 Gauge 7/8 oz. #9s.
STS Hull, Cheddite primer, 15.1 of BE-86, CB1078-20 wad.
AVG 1231 FPS (EV of 7) 11320 PSI (EV of 500)

16 Gauge 1 oz. #7.5s
Cheddite/Win Hull, Cheddite Primer, 18.9 of BE-86, SG-16 wad.
AVG 1259 FPS (EV of 13) 10400 PSI (EV of 600)

Now the bad news.
I sent in a 16 gauge in a Remington hull with the new High Gun powder.
Only 15.4 grains. It didn't fit well, was over pressure and way too large of an EV in speed and pressure.
155 and 1900.

That could wind up making a really nice 1oz 16ga load at the 1165-1200fps range, maybe even better with 7/8oz loadings.

Thank you for taking the initiative on this one.

Ditto, thanks for the effort, nice to have options. Do you have a chrono? With reference in hand, be interesting to see how the speed holds up after a cold soak.

Briefly looked back up string and didn't find the Rem load recipe; what wad did you use in the Rem load?

I don't have a chrono.

In the 16 gauge Remington load I used the CB0078-16.
Really needed a 3/4 oz. wad. They were so dished I would have been embarrassed to send them to Tom, so I used a 28 gauge OS card to get a decent crimp.

Glad the BE-86 worked out. I wasn't too hopeful that it would.

Good work!

What do you think about 28 gauge with BE-86?
If I try it will be about 12 grains maybe a little less.
AA hull, Cheddite primer and the Claybuster HS wad.

At least now I can save all my 20/28 and Unique for the 28 gauge.

BE-86 seems to be still available.

Can't hurt to try it.
