This post’s responses seriously stir up the gun lust…
While my 6.25# Sarasqueta has been a joy on the skeet field and in the woods, I’m now on the lookout for a sub-6# box lock with modern dimensions, 2-3/4” chambers, scalloped receiver, fences, ejectors, gas checks & single selectable trigger…all below $3k. Preferably without pedigree or collectible status so I can mod it if necessary.
The unicorn specs are mostly to keep money in my bank account…go big or don’t go! |

A bit overexposed here, and this is from several years ago (rented truck) but this is my circa 1905 Brummy 16 BLE. 5lbs14 is what she tips the digital scale at, horn butplate and all.

Hopelessly conventional but oh... so practical! |

Wow, that Daly is spectacular!
I have some first of its kind custom art on my new 5.12 lb Belgian 16 I'll be sharing. It's a ML Firearms double (manufacture Liege), marked ML in gold with a crown on the top lever, so I have my own personal monogram! lol. Pretty cool nonetheless. Makes me want to find more of them... |

In looking across my Ithacas (all 16’s) my 1914 Flues comes in the lightest at 5 lb 6 oz. I do have a 1927 NID that is 6 lbs even. Both of these guns have 28” barrels. I attribute the lighter weight of the ‘27 NID to its having its stock shortened. (It’s perfect for the grandkids.).
It’s also interesting how many different Ithaca models are 6 lbs 3 oz. |

Not often thought of as light, but, this Nitro Special is just over 6lbs, by 2 ounces, with 26” tubes choked Cyl and Mod, 2 3/4” chambers and built in 1938.

Reminds me, I’ve got to get it out this year.
Best,

Yes, you do, Ted.
It so happens that I had the safe open yesterday and was looking at my “new” nitro courtesy of the late Richard Brewster and thinking the very same thing.
A man fortunate enough to own a 16ga Nitro Special should not go long between times of enjoying the simple and satisfying pleasures of an NS.

German Imman Meffert
Went ahead and had it completely restored since I was so fond of it.
Has 31.5in barrels. Should be back very soon. |

Whenever I am reminded of Bobby’s Dalys I’m reminded I need to get to work and add some 16s to my collection of Daly Diamonds. A few 12s and a 20 but every time I see a nice 16, Bobby scoops it. Hahaha.
Lindner sure knew how to make a gun. I have one more Lindner Daly 12 ga acquisition planned then am focusing on 16 gauges from Lindner and from Fox. |

I have a lot of 16-gauge guns, but none are very light. Lightest is my SP-Grade, 28-inch barrel, A.H. Fox at 6 pounds, 6.2 ounces. |
