Curious to see what the group consensus on pricing is these days. I recognize that values vary by condition and location so for the purpose of this exercise let's use two examples: a post-war field gun, plain 28" barrel and MOD choke, condition very nice but not so nice that you won;t shoot or hunt with it. Then the same gun with a solid rib.
I'll start us off - I see the plain barrel guns on a pretty regular basis in the $400-$600 range. The solid ribs are more scarce, at least around me, and seem to be in the $900- $1200 range. I ran across one recently that was priced at $1800 and thought that seemed pretty rich for just a field gun. Thoughts? |

| I think it is safe to say, sir, that your gun is considerably above the value of those in the control group that we are considering! Just for the heck of it though what do you think a fair "retail" value on your pre-war skeet grade would be? |

I think you post that gun every once and a while to drive me crazy with envey. I would pay top dollar for that piece. |

| No Winchester Proof mark! -- at least not in the proper place for a factory ribbed barrel, if it is even there somewhere anymore. I guess it is under the rib. Rib was likely installed after it left the factory. Simmons did a lot of them right out of the factory, on the way to the purchaser, though, as I've heard. And those won't have the Simmons name on the left side of the rib, as one sees on guns more recently ribbed by Simmons. I doubt a missing proof mark would/should affect the value of a Model 12. The Blue Book rules, and even enthusiasts have a tough time paying Blue Book. |

| 4-600 seems right for a plain barreled gun with typical moderate wear, I would expect a solid rib to put them where you've observed, maybe $100 less at the peak but always depending on condition. Mine's a SR, 26" Mod gun from the short chamber timeframe. I've extended the chamber but not done any work on the ejection port, so just use 2.5" shells in it. I'd value it at $800, but expect to get maybe as little as $700 from someone just looking for a Model 12 16ga. |

| Winchester never offered a vent rib 16-gauge Model 12 Skeet Gun. The January 1954 Winchester catalog that introduced the Winchester Special Ventilated Rib, dropped the 16-gauge Model 12 Skeet Gun. |
