I showed him in another post, so here is the official one. Here is the new employee. Of course he negotiated lifetime food and board, medical care, etc. He was a tough negotiator, his name is Scotty. He is an "oops". A local family have a champion GSP (M) and a champion English Setter (F) and M got to F resulting in puppies.
He is going to be a BIG boy. He is 12 weeks old and all legs. Taller (but not heavier of course) than my bassetts. Close to 20 lbs. We give puppies extra calcium products to ensure good bone growth.
I would have liked to have one of my buddy's Bracco Italianos, but I couldn't even thing of imposing on him for what we paid for Scotty. I realize that he will not be able to compete in some of the trials that require pedigrees, but I was wanting a hunting dog. If he does anywhere near what his dad, mom aunts etc accomplish I will be more than happy (how can anyone be more than happy?).
We bought him for $200.00, basically to cover the initial expenses. The family made sure all the pups went to hunting families.

Awesome looking feller. I am sure he will excel in the field.
I hunt often with a Bernese Mountain Dog. Sometimes we get too caught up in the fine details, when we should just go hunt. |

Beautiful looking pup! It will be interesting to see how Scotty develops and what mix of traits he has from his parents.
Are you going to dock the tail? |

No. He is getting to be too old to dock the tail. He/his mind knows it is back there. I did that when I used to show Dobermans. The family didn't dock them because they didn't know what kind of traits their tails would show. It would have looked funny if they had docked the tail and it grew long hair.
We used to have a Doberman/Rhodesian Ridgeback cross. Actually had brothers. One (Blake) was stocky like a Rottweiler. Otto was more Doberman. Both weighted 120lbs.
Otto (or should I say Ottosaurus) had a tail on him. Never measured it, but probably close to 2 foot (maybe more long) and almost as big as a tennis ball is round at the root. Our refrigerator is still dented up from when he got that tail going. He would leave bruises on my wife's legs. |

We are now a few weeks down the line from the initial post. Scotty is now 26 lbs and probably 20 in (maybe more) tall at the shoulders. He was 19 last week. You can almost see him growing. We give our dogs calcium supplements of some kind to fuel strong bones and maximize their growth potential.
We had 2 brothers that outweighed their siblings by a good 40 lbs and many inches in height. |
