Ya that’s a red flag. Look through Aligoods listings. They’re the best I’ve dealt with yet. They’re in Guns International.

CSMC/Galazan -- Mine was one of the very earliest orders for the RBL. I paid full price in advance on the promise of delivery priority. I waited . . . . Then I noticed some talk on-line about delays. I accepted that, and did not call to bother CSMC about it, as I heard lots of people were doing that. I waited some more. I started to see some complaints about missing features - breech-end engraving on barrels, and other difficulties. I called . . . and waited. Finally I got a response -- a very snotty one -- by the fellow "in charge". I was told I wasn't going to get the engraving as advertised. I waited . . . I called, and was told to wait some more, and on asking about the barrel engraving, was told unsympathetically I could elect to have it or not, but they weren't recommending it. I waited and waited and waited . . . more than a year! I had been very patient with them, but I'd had enough and finally called and asked for my money back. They resisted. They tried to cook up a reason not to give me the whole amount!! Then the person -- a woman this time -- change her tune to the arrogant one, saying "well we don't care if you don't want it, as we're sure many others would". Really!! Then why did she resist complying with my cancellation and refund request?? I waited, and waited and waited and finally got my money back. They had my full payment for more than a year! Some priority that had bought!!

In the end, after seeing a few RBL's, I was super glad I had cancelled. The gun was heavy, a bit clunky, and certainly not well-fitted -- just a spiffed-up SKB. I quickly went to Fieldsport and bought an AyA 4/53 for $995. Shortly after that I bought a new AyA No. 2 from Cabelas (New England Custom Gun import) for $3000! Those were the days, right? Well I had put down $2000 for that damned RBL -- Huge mistake!! So glad to have bailed out on that.

I admire the intent of Galazan, and the photos of some of the work they apparently do. However, life is just too short to take chances with a company that acts with such contempt for their customers. I do wonder what it takes to be treated with respect by them. What customer base is keeping them afloat? Why would I buy from them rather than a European manufacturer? There seems to be absolutely no advantage to buying from them. For guns comparable to their lower grades I have lots of choices. For guns of their higher grades, I'd rather do business with a US custom gunsmith, or get a bespoke gun from an English, Scottish or Continental manufacturer.

I just got my second AYA, a model 25 BL. My other is a 4/53, both 12’s. They’re spectacular guns, very well made.

Swampy 16,

I have heard many positive comments on his business, it does seem however his customer support varies with each different gun purchased, I know the A10 guns come with a life time warranty to the original owner, and he gives great customer support to these guns!

I know his reproduction guns are very costly, I wanted one of his Fox guns but could not get him to come down to the price I wanted to pay. I could purchase an original for 1/2 of what his repro guns were costing.

all the best,

I would buy one of their "Superbird" guns tomorrow if not for the company's bad reputation.

Joe,

I would not give to much credence to the bad reputation, always judge a man and his business on 1st hand experience, not the words of others.

I own 2 RBL's and a Fox/Savage RBL clone. They have been fantastic guns, and I have never had a problem with them.

I did however buy a 16-gauge Fox Sterlingworth that came with an older small crack in the wrist behind the trigger guard that was not disclosed. I sent it back and told them to fix it or keep it. I got to back and I took them at their word that they did something to it although cosmetically you could still see the crack. 3 years later I went to have a recoil pad put on it by my stock guy and he called me and asked me if I wanted him to fix the crack. Those mfer's never fixed it.

That's my only CSMC story, so buyer beware.

Or not at all. Seems to be a pretty risky proposition. Kind of like Ruger has stepped into.

If I have to proceed with caution, I’m headed another direction. There’s way to much bad publicity for a supposed high end shotgun.

I kept a brochure of the original Fox guns on my bed stand for several years. Every time I decided to order one I would call and the price had gone up and I never pulled the trigger to buy one. Then the RBL first came out and I sent them the full purchase price very early in the release. I waited for over a year, maybe longer and the gun finally arrived. I opened the box and the brass front bead was rolling around in the box. I figured if the quality control was that bad I wasn’t going to wait for a problem to pop up and I sent it back. The guy in charge of the gun room (forget his name) told me I should have bought one of the Foxes. That comment didn’t instill much confidence. The Fox 20 I saw was a nice gun, but the price increased rapidly. The original price was probably a steal. At some point they decided that they were no longer going to allow a three day inspection period on used guns because their pictures were so good. I suppose you have to trust them that the gun will go bang, have good wood to metal fit etc. Too arrogant a crew for me, but I do admire what Tony managed to pull of making a decent gun (RBL) here in America at a fair price.

I ended up buying used English guns and I never looked back on my decision. I now have over a dozen 16 bore English guns and the lightest one is 5 lb 13 oz and the heaviest one is 6 lb 4 oz.

I suspect horror stories make better reading. But, in all honesty, my purchases were w/o such issues. Repairs, when needed, were done promptly and to my complete satisfaction. They even helped me with prompt repairs to another manufacturer's defective product! Too many of us are quick to complain, but slow to praise!

I have owned several of their new shotguns. I have had nothing but luck with the guns and love them. I did damage the wood on my first RBL 20g after waiting a year for it and they replaced the forearm wood at no charge. I don't know any gun dealer or manufacturer who would do that. I would not hesitate to buy another gun from them. Good point made above that bad news travels fast but good news does not travel at all.

My minor beef with them right now is that, as the "Official Fox" builder, they won't offer to fit new barrels to originals. I think a lot of guys with graded 20-gauge Foxes would love to be able to get a 28-gauge set added if they could.

ROMAC,

I agree it would be nice, however the cost to make and set up to due the work would probably be more than the profit made to supply it for Tony. I know you payed real good money for your Fox gun made by them, its why I do not own one. It would be real nice of Tony to add the 28 gauge barrels to the gun you payed big money to purchase however

I severely doubt you will ever see it happen because the demand would be so low.

all the best,
