Anyone know the year Ithaca started using the sunburst recoil pad?
Was it for the M37?
Thanks

Henry, I believe Ithaca started to use the Sunburst pad in ,or about 1932.
I don't recall seeing one on a model 37,but they may well have been.

Hey, I did some research about the beginning year of use of the sunburst pad. Nothing : But I do have a 1925 Flues that has the sunburst pad on it. The pad was on the gun when I got it about 15 years ago. Could be a add on also. Great fitting job!! The gun also has some engraving that is most likely non-standard. Sooooo. Good luck. I want to know now. |

I have an NID 10ga that has a sunburst pad on it that I would bet was original. Gun numbers out to 1926, the trade mark on the pad face has patent pending on it.

I can't find any mention of them before 1926 but that don't mean anything with Ithaca ! I'll post the question over on doublegun and see if I might raise Walt Synder |

Per Walt Snyder its 1932. Heres a bit more info I received from the guys over on the doublegunshop site. Those first pads Ithaca supplied that I spoke of were Jostam "anti-flinch pads". Ithaca referred to what us modern guys term the sunburst as the "bridge trestle pad "because of the pads pattern resembling the old thru span bridge truss. A patent was filed in 1932. Also that pad with the aluminum backing has the roto-forged symbol on it and was for the model 37 and I see ones without the aluminum. Guess I'll check the Ithaca 37 book on that pad might learn something else ! |

Captain Billy,
Ithaca did use Jostam pads in the 1920s,but they also used other brands.I've owned two Ithaca flues of that era that had original Hawkins pads on them.

Your correct and I have a 16 ga. Flues sitting here next to me with a Hawkins! I couldn't venture a guess wether or not its original but I like the looks. Your prolly correct because Ithac just "did things" and records of thier doin's wasn't a big deal on thier menu. |

Thanks for the info!
I'm looking at a 1939 M37. But the stock has been shortened, and I want to correct this with a "period correct" type of fix.

Henry -
I just pick up a early 50's Spanish SxS with an Ithaca sunburst pad and the aluminum spacer - Let me know what you think is fair with shipping included. My email is bmoughan@netscape.net. I'll measure it if you are interested to assure the fit. |

The aluminum backed pad would not be the "period pad" for a 1939 model 37 it came out in 1950. Your looking for the sunburst pad with the black hard rubber base |
