| What does the older Rem 870 16 ga weigh vs the newer modern version with choke tubes? |

| I have not handled an original but the later model sixteens were made on a twelve gauge frame so they would probably weigh more than the originals. I saw one of the newer ones at a local shop when they first came out just after I had bought my Win M12 16ga and was still happy with my purchase(spent less money). |

I'd rather be using one of them right now. |

| No matter what you hear all 870 12 16 and 20 were made on the same frame, Never was a 16 gauge size frame with 870 production from day one. |

The 16 and 12 were always made on the large frame (12 gauge). Remington came out with the "lightweight" 20 in 1972, so anything before that year in 20 gauge also was built on the 12 gauge frame, and anything 1972 and later in 20 gauge could be either large or small frame guns.
I have a 1963 870 16 gauge in my safe with a 28" full choke barrel, I'll get a weight on it in the next day or so. |

| I was incorrect, the barrel stampings trace it to 1965 vintage, definitely 1967 or earlier because to letter prefix on the serial number. 6 lbs, 12oz with a plain (no rib) full choke 28" barrel. |
