Hi Guys - I posted over on SGW but I was hoping to get some help here.

Dad pulled an old chunk of iron out from somewhere (sometimes jokes just write themselves don't they...)

It's an Ithaca Hammerless 12 gauge, serial #594xx

28" damascus barrels - I'll guess and say Mod/full but the need a measurement - the need a bronze brushing but no pitting

on the watertable are:

"1 1/2" on the right side

"1___2" on the left (underscores are there for spacing only)

If you know where I can find more info on this thing, please point me to it.

Cool Sprocket Cool
It's a Crass Model Ithaca Double Gun made in 1900.
Just past the brl flats should be stamped 4 (full) and 2 (mod)
Walt Snyder's book is on sale here
http://www.ithacagunsusa.com/snyderbooks.html
or I bet some library could get a copy for you.

Go to Doublegunshop.com, someone there will tell you. It's probably a Lewis or Crass model, but my book is loaned out.

The Crass line ended with #5000. You have a Lewis model from the first year of production in 1901. Should have a square hole in the rib extension and four screw pins in the action. Sounds like you have a quality 1 1/2 gun which was simply a quality 1 gun with damascus barrels. I have a #79xxx(1903) Lewis 16 with 30" tubes that sees lotsa action round my place. Clean it up and check it out. Smile

Would Mr. Orlen be the one to tell me if the barrels are fit for service?

I'll check the bbl flats when I go visit Dad again - based on a similar gun (with hammers) I saw at the show today, I'll estimate value at $300

Not a bad grab for $15.00...

CB: Does your infro come from Walt's book? My source has the Crass ending at 94108 in 1903.

Drew - the only markings on the gun are the digits 1 & 2 on the water table - no other markings on the barrels at all...

I suspect the chokes are IC/mod - where could I figure out the codes for this gun?

I'd also like to send it out to get it inspected to see if it's OK to fire at all - I'd rather know once and for all instead of wondering all the time...

Dad seems bent on selling it - I think I'll find some cash and keep it for myself and either make a coffee table diorama with old calls, bands, paper shells and antique decoys, etc. and give it to him - maybe a wall box type thing...

That would be very cool! If you can't shoot it you should definitely do that!

thanks Fin - been thinking of it for years - ever since I found an old license of one of my uncles (after he passed) - my Dad's brother - the 3 of us hunted once, one of his last - I had the 16 and it was my first year hunting...I remember that day well - anyways, the license has the '60 King Buck stamp on it, signed of course but still...
