The TC(z)-16 is a good wad. I have used it often. Never used the Multi-metal wad so I cannot comment on its performance. |

My only experience so far with BPI wads has been SG16 and Z16. The limits of the sg16 is 1oz and the Z16 upper limit is 1 1/8. They are both excellent wads but the Field Commander Z16 is my favorite so far. Nice tight patterns for medium to long range with Nickel shot. |

Hey Brit,
Gone to Africa soon, I hope thats work and not play!
Back to the post, I'll agree with Hoa. Feds are better for the heavy stuff as are the kent/cheddite and fiocchi. My personal fav is the sp16 by Rem. I've found it to pattern a touch better and the shot cup is plenty large.
Good luck my friend and have a safe trip.

Yeah Charlie, all work, we build orphanages in Uganda, that's what I left the gun trade to do full time.... I've got plenty of SP16's, now I just need to get some Fed purples....probably at Walmart, shoot 'em up at live pigeons, then reload.... thanks for the advice,

Just loaded my first ever box of shotgun reloads on the sizemaster yesterday, with some help from my friend Rob.
Per Hodgdon website, we loaded in the purple federal hull:
16 gauge 1 1/8 oz. #5 Lead Shot 26.8 grains Longshot Win. 209 primer Rem. SP16 wad 8,600 PSI 1295 fps
It looks to duplicate the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant load, which we've had real good luck with. I hope it patterns well in the Citoris.
Lots's of helpful info on the Hodgdon site.
After I boxed up the 25 shells, I slapped a "HELLO MY NAME IS 1 1/8 oz. #5's" sticker on the box. Can't wait to introduce them to some pheasants.

I reload my Hevishot waterfowling loads with these wads and I've been very happy with 'em. They come unslit so you can customize to your heart's content. (With Hevishot, that's a great thing since getting the pattern to open up at short ranges is difficult, even with skeet chokes. Tried using BP's X-spreader but the extra work involved in placing those in each handload was a bit too much for me. Plus, I wasn't liking all the additional plastic trash I was inadvertently adding to my favorite marshes.) No recipes other than Hevi's unfortunately and those are straight outta the BP manual. I just bought another 350 for this summer's reloading activities. I'm gonna ramp up production since it looks like the Kent TM shells are going through the roof. I always thought their case price of $325 for the 1 1/16oz. load of 5's was too good to be true . . . looks like they finally got around to thinking that too. |
