Every once in a while, I do something that brings me back to Earth. My latest reality check was this last Saturday evening. I was loading some of my favorite 3/4 ounce skeet loads based on the R16 one ounce load. I was happily stuffing them together on my Mec Grabber, blissfully ignorant of the fact That I had grabbed a bag of SP-16 wads instead. Reality came knocking with the sound of #9 shot gaily plinking off the metal top of a tool box on the lower leval of my bench.
I then checked the shells in my stacker only to find that each sported a nicely concave crimp with a hole just big enough for the shot to dribble out. Not being one to waste effort, I proceeded to plug the holes with shreads of a Dunkin Donuts napkin stuffed in with a small phillips screw driver. I then swapped out the Sp-16 wads for the R16.
Every thing was fine the next day at the range. The shells fired okay, the targets broke, (well most of them,) and my buddies had a field day razzing me for the free confetti show. However, it could have been not so funny. My point: look things over before loading---and finish the coffee before loading so you is fully awake. Even an old shell stuffer like me screws up now and then. |

Guy, at least if you use Puffed Wheat for filler, the birds will like you better.
Donut loads, and you still broke targets? |

I've used RTV silicone to plug the holes. A little dab will do. |

What was it that Father Mulcahy(of MASH fame) said?
Oh yea... "jocularity, jocularity"! |
