Has anyone purchased the new 5th edition Lyman book yet? If so, is there any worthwhile 16 gage data?

There are nearly one hundred 16 ga. loads in the 5th. I have not counted them but my guess is that three-quarters of them are new.

There are about 15 new 7/8 oz. loads. Those are all new.

It appears that all of the componets listed are of current manufacturer. (No more WAA16, Fed209, etc.)

Cabelas' has the best price I've seen.

Thanks for theupdate. I'm glad to see one of the biggies finally updated their 16 data. Like all of you I was sick of seeing WAA16, etc included in "new" manuals.

Terry:

Where did Lymans get the data from? There own testing? Anything good from a lower pressure/moderate velocity perspective? Russ

Russ,
According to the book they have done a lot of testing over the last few years. Here it is in the editor's (Thomas J Griffin) words: "Our data section is the largest that we have ever produced for a shotshell handbook. Thousands of rounds have been fired over the course of several years to produce this data. All popular guages and lengths....have been covered. We hav attempted to select the most often encountered hulls from most of the major brands for inclusion in the data section."

There is recipes for lead, steel, bismuth, hevi-shot, buckshot and slugs.

I did note that they have listed some of the old loads from the 4th but shown pressures in psi rather than LUP as they were originally listed. My assumption is that those were retested as theLUP/psi pressure differences vary widely rather than by the usual 1,000# that I usually see from other manuals.

Vista orphaned my scanner or I would scan a page or two and post them. I don't expect the new scanner/printer/fax to be here until late this week but I will do some scans when I have a chance.

Lyman should pay me for all this free advertising... Probably will slap me instead because of the copyright thing.

Oh well....
Terry
