That pup is only 4 months old. This is the dog that does all the work so far. My yellow pointing lab. I wish I would have had a camera in the field yesterday. He held his points just like a pointer .[img] .[/img]

A little more on Saturday. Was working with the pup out back in the morning. Retrieveing. Started him with the starter pistol, but he's up to the shotgun now. Started getting warm out and the sun was shining so I decided to call up to the pheasant run. They were open so I said I'll be up in an hour. Got up there and had them put out four birds. The field was in great condition. Still a lot of cover. I, know you're wondering if I took the pup. I did. Anyway I got out to the field I picked to use. It's my favorite. I had them mark the birds saturday. I ussually don't but as I had the pup I wanted to get a point from the old dog quick. Well it didn't quite workout the way I wanted. I stayed in the clubhouse drinking coffee and talking to the couple that own the place to long. Got to the first mark and the pheasant had moved. The old dog got on his trail though. Al of the sudden he locked up and pointed. The pup followed him in. I walked up and a rooster gets up and when he cackles the pup jumps backward. I finally decide to shoot. One shot feathers fly and the bird soars right into the woods. Thinking I'll find him later, I want to get to where the other birds were put out. Back down the field and come up on another flag. Just like that the old dog goes into a perfect point. I tell him to flush the bird and there's one shot, one dead hen. So I throw it a couple of times for the pup. He tries to bring it back but it's a big hen so he starts dragging it. On to the next flag. Well this one has left also. The old dog gets on the trail again with myself and the pup trying to follow. I'm just not as young as I used to be, but I try my best to keep up. Into the woods he goes. Anyway I stop half way in and just then on the other side of the trees, a rooster gets up. No shot and I think that bird was on it's way to Grand Rapids. Well on to the last flag. Got over rhere and that bird had moved also. The old dog got on the trail and just about to the old road, he locks up. Tell him to flush the bird and it gets up,I shoot and feathers fly again and it glides into the woods. So into the woods we go and then about 25 feet into the woods, the dogs found the bird, broken wing and all, but can it run, so there I am with a pheasant and two dogs running around me in a circle. Finally the old dog pins hom down by the body. so the pup goes up and grabs it's head. Then I decide we'd better look for the first one that made it to the woods. To make a long story short after looking for an hour we never did locate that bird. Was a fun day though. The pup saw some real birds. I've got some wings to wrap around his dummy. We all got a lot of excercise and a lot of sunshine. For $54.00 I can't think of a better way to spend a day. I'll be going back this weekend. I even used my new Remington SPR 310 16 gauge O/U. I should have changed to bottom barrell to cyl instead of I/C. It shoots awfull tight with those PMC shells. Actually I like to fell of the gun although it is my first O/U. I think for $500.00 it was well worth it. Don't know if it can ever replace the A-5's though.
