Thanks for your comments. I will plan on having some of these shells at our shoot. Then you can try them for yourselves! If too stout for clays, we'll save them for the field.

How do the hulls work for reloading? Do they hold up well?

i would not assume that. the ones I've seen seem to have a heavier wall and a different base wad. However, B & P makes several types of shells, so I'm not certain exactly what is the truth.

I've reloaded a few using the proper wads from Precision Reloading and slow and flexible 4756. The reloading group also lists a load or two using, I believe, the R-16 and a more modern powder. The hulls (mine were the earlier yellow(!) ones) seem to be allright but not nearly as useful, IMO as the Federals.
I used these in the field and, despite their 'vigor', was favorably impressed with quality and performance--they simply seem too 'hot' for my needs so I continue to stuff the Purple Gang for a lighter load.

Duncan, I thought as much. They are probably made by Rio. The ones I saw have a cupped base wad that remembles the new Winchester HC cases. The walls were heavier, so I'd bet the Remington wads will work well.

Which leads to another question. Has anyone bought and shot any 16 ga Rio ammo?

The 8 flats of ammo you talked about are they B&P or the PMC we just got from Cascade? The PMC's are indeed cheddite hulls and as for the Rio's that 16gg commented on I looked at 2 different trap loads this past weekend at the club and both of those were cheddite hulls also. Look at the head stamp on the end of the case, 4 stars with the ga. is Cheddite all the way.

I have shot RIOS, they were cheap.....I now know what a cheddite hull is, thanks guys....yes, I was talkin about 8 flats of those PMC's which have the stars on the base of the hull.....do cheddites reload pretty good?

Charlie: went out for coyotes, never fired a shot, but saw 12 bull elk and a bunch of mulies....it's mating season, we couldn't call the dogs in...will try again in 2-3 weeks, gotta try thise T's...

Go figure, when you're looking for dogs everything else is in your lap and when your sitting in the deer stand the yotes run ya over. Can't win for losing sometimes.
The Cheddites load great, the more I load and shoot them the better I like em.

I have ordered a few flats of the B&P 16's. We will see how they shoot.
These are 1 1/16 ounce loads vs. 1 ounce.

While there may be a slight increase in perceived recoil--I tend to think that it is worth it to use a premium shell. I have seen and heard many of the 'cheap' factory promo shells give irratic performance.

I bought a flat direct from B&P. They offer free shipping for direct shipments of a 1 flat minimum. The 16's looked good, nice-deep 6 point crimp. These 1 1/16 ounce loads of #8's smoked clay targets. The gun was a M-21 and recoil was not an issue. I did notice more push than the 1 ounce Remington's--and this could be an issue if shooting skeet with a light game gun. These loads will meet my needs.
