hello boys
i've an old 16 ga wingmaster and am about to close the deal on a sweet sixteen. i reload 12,28,.410 now and i will be loading 16 soon. i know i've got my reading to do and this forum is a great start and i'll be joining the reloading experimenters group soon. i'm champing at the bit to give my new, old, machinery a workout. i shoot all kinds of clays and would like to hunt birds here in n ky and s in. right now i need shells i can reload. what's the best all around versatile 16 gauge shell out there and who sells 'em the cheapest? thanx guys.

Touche Larry, you're killing me!!!! Very Happy

RGR, the remington black is probably the best choice for target loads.

Best bet is to buy loaded shells wherever you can find them cheapest (Bass Pro and Dick's Sporting Goods seem to have the best prices right now). At $32.00 for 25 lbs of shot at Cabelas and $39.00 at Bass Pro you may come out ahead buying loaded ammo and holding on to the hulls until the price of lead goes down.

Dick's Sporting Goods should have Remington 16 GA 1oz Game Loads on the shelf in either 7.5 or 6 shot. That should be a good starting load for sporting clays. At my local store they're 4.19 a box. The only bad thing about the Remington shell is they only take Remington wads, as some other wads (Guliandi) can bulge the hull when loaded.

If you really get into it, Recob's Target Shop obtains some components that are no longer sold to the public (R16 wad) so you can load your own 1oz or even 7/8oz loads to your heart's content. FWIW.

Hey Mike don't forget the slick little 7/8th ounce loads made up with Gualandi 2025 wads.

Doh! But that's a 20 GA wad, not a 16 GA wad......

You can get "Multi Hulls" in 16 Gauge from Ballistic Products, pre-primed for around 11c each. I've had good luck with them, get about 5 reloads;
I like using Unique and a Win 209 prmr + SG16 wad, also from Ballistic Products. Pick up their "16 Gauge Reloading Manual"-very helpful --
good luck. Reloading is the Zen side of shotgunning.

Welcome aboard! I have used BPI hulls and they seem to work well. Remington blacks are a good option as well.

I would if I could but right now, Larry Brown and I are in the middle of a somewhat protracted mud wrestling contest. I'm enjoying it and I think he is too. If he ain't, then its probably because he's getting his butt kicked for the moment. Laughing
