Current reloading manuals list a variety of hulls (all plastic) and wads that do not appear to be manufactured anymore. I am looking for a supply of 16 Ga. paper hulls and the only brand that I can find is Cheddite, a hull that I am not familiar with. Anyone have any experience with Cheddite hulls and are other paper hull brands available?

If you'll look a little further in this section, you'll find several postings about the Cheddite Paper hulls. I've even shared test results with the group.

They don't tend to last for over two reloads with any recipe

I think they will if roll crimped, but haven't gotten that far yet.
Of course mine are low pressure, around 7K.

I'm trying them with low pressure, "old school" fiber wads...will let you know if I do any better than that.... they sure crimp nicely, I must say...so they must not be as good as those Fed'l Gold Medals, eh?

The new cheddites do crimp very well indeed, although they are of thinner paper and will buckle near the crown of the crimp if pressure isn't applied evenly and slowly while crimp starting (I learned that the hard way). My favorite are the old Federal purple paper Monarks, the thicker paper design. Less hull capacity than the cheddites though.

I didn't know FED made paper 16's.... now those would be nice to have, when did they stop producing them? I really like the Fed's in 12 bore..... those and AA are all I load for 12....

Check the Classic Shot Shell Company www.rstshells.com. They have paper hulls.

Yup! That's them all right. I picked up a couple dozen on a skeet range a while back. Wish I could find more. I like purple shells for the 16 for some reason. Just seems to fit.
