I took my a-5 sixteens up to the local sporting good store. They have a scale for weighing fish. 7lb 2 oz. for the sweet sixteen. 7lb.4oz. for the standard. Alittle different then my scale. I then took the guns apart and weighed the parts. Barrells pretty close to the same. The standard barrell is shorter though. The foreends were the same even though the foreend on the standard is larger. 2 oz. different on the reciever and stocks. I've got a Remington model 58 16 gauge that weighs in at 6.5 lbs. Even tried to sell it as I can't shoot with it worth a damn. It's got one of those straighter stocks everybody wants. Nobody seems to want it so I'll raise the price.

The Sweet Sixteen I talked about earlier that weighs 7lbs 8 oz. is a 1988 model with a 26" barrel. The wood is really dense in the stock but does have fairly nice grain. Even though it seems heavy, it balances really well for me with the weight in the stock typical of an A5 and points well. I do seem to prefer on long days of rabbit hunting to carry my Light Twenty Japan or Mag 20 Japan that both are at 7lbs. flat. That is why I am after a 16 that is right at 7lbs. If someone can PM me with an email address, I will send a nice picture of my Japan Sweet Sixteen with a woodcock I shot in it. Thanks. I do love the Japan A5'S but I have been wanting a Belgium model in 16 or a Light Twenty.

Just found this post after weighing my two A5 16ga. I bought oldhunter's Sweet Sixteen, and right as he stated, it weighs 7lb 2oz on my scale. My standard 16 only weighs 7lb 5oz with exact same configuration (28" plain barrels). LOP is same on both guns, both have horn buttplates.

After looking at the differences, I just can't see the 10oz that gets thrown around, there's just not that much metal being taken out. Does anyone know the MSRP difference, if any, of a Standard vs Sweet Sixteen originally? Would be interesting to see, obviously the disparity is huge today for the relatively little difference in weight that is seen on similarly configured guns.

I believe that the last Browning literature that I saw said 7 oz. I've weighed a lot of guns and seen variances from 2 oz to 9 oz.

Barrel length and rib style often make more of a difference than the extra machining that FN did on the sweets. Each extra inch of (plain) barrel adds an oz. And a vent rib adds 4 oz on a 26" barrel and more on longer barrels.
