I currently have a set of components which I was intending to use Longshot for a powder - the recipe is straight out of the Hodgdon Manual and goes like this:

Rem SP/black hull
Rem SP 16 wad (1 1/8 shot cup)
Rem 209 primer

1 oz shot/28ga wad card

21 gr of Longshot

It's listed as 1250 FPS @ 9300 PSI

I have everything accept the powder - having seen the range of pressures in loads using Longshot (from other threads) should I use another powder type? My intent is to use these loads for both target and hunting.

Thanks

If you want 1250 fps but moderate pressure, it will be tough to beat Longshot. That said, if you can live with 1200 fps, then look for recipes using Unique, Solo 1250 or Universal Clays, amongst a host of other moderate burn rate powders. These moderate to slow burn rate powders work marvelously in small bores, especially the 16 ga.

I have used that recipe, except with Win 209 and a 20 ga. OS card.... works great for me in my guns.... Longshot is a fantastic powder, and I have switched to it almost exclusively in all hulls, with most components..... seems like they thunk it up with the sixteener in mind..... I love the stuff.
