What a great story in the latest issue.
I was enjoying the quality of the writing as much, if not more, than the story itself. Didn't see the plot twist coming at all.
Who knew St Peter drives an ancient Plymouth station wagon?
Or that the Hudson doubles as the Styx?
I was thinking I've got to read more by this guy Jones, when I saw he died 5 years ago. Seems I'm always discovering a great writer years after he passes.

Agreed. Just finished reading that article yesterday morning. Excellent. Looking forward to the compilation this August.

Great writer, used to be my favorite contributor to Sports Illustrated until they changed their focus to almost strictly stick& ball sports. Thats when I dropped my subscription.
I must find and read Jones' book " Dancers in the Sunset Sky" . Just the title has me hooked(taken from the writings of Aldo Leopold)' |

I read Upland Passage a few years ago (from our local library) and found it also, absoulutly delightful. Anything by Mr. Jones is worth a look. Have to admit that I read the story in SS twice to get it. I got so intrested in the descriptions of guns, birds, dogs, and the house that the story puzzeled my simple mind. But then, maybe it was supposed to. |
