| What tool are you using to measure your chamber length? A rolled up 3X5 card works very well in a clean chamber. Just slide it in until you feel the resistance at the start of the forcing cone, mark the card, measure, and repeat a couple of times. As MD said, if the chambers have been lengthened to 3 1/8", it's very possible that the remaining brl wall immediately past the forcing cone in now too thin. This area needs to be measured and should be no less than .080". |

| The barrels on this gun are as thick as the hull on an Abrams tank. I don't think I have to worry about barrel thickness. |

| I'm sure Rev was just trying to be helpful, I know that was my intention.. I think you will have to agree that a chamber length that is a full 3/8 of an inch longer than the longest production load of the day, is a bit unusual..However, I'm sure you will use the utmost care, if you decide to shoot it.. Well, I din't mean to sound short or snippy in my reply. Certainly I am grateful for all the information presented here. I've learned a lot about guns, loads, etc, that I wouldn't otherwise have known, had I not found 16ga.com. This is a great resource with a lot of fine folks.  |

I measured using the card method and came up with 2 9/16". Thanks for the tip--I would have thought that 2 3/4" shells were OK otherwise.  |

| Using 2 3/4" shells in 2 9/16" chambers, if the loads are that for which the gun was originally designed, increases pressure very little. It can, however, increase recoil and for that reason, lengthening the chamber is a good idea in classic SxSs. |
