anybody know of any 16 ga specific books on reloading/ballistics. i plan to join the reloading group here but was looking for a way to understand some of the nuances [shotcards, buffers, fillers, etc.] that i come across in the forum. i reload 12, 28, and .410 now but 16 seems to be another animal. thanx, rick |

I just bought the new Lyman 5th Edition Shotshell Reloading Handbook, dated 2007.
Very informative and up-to- date. Could have a better section on 16Ga.. But what can you expect. The 12 ga rules for now, long live the 16 !
I shoot Cowboy action with my 1924 Winchester 97/16 and a late 1940's Fox B SXS/16. For Dove and Quail I use a Remington 870/16 made in 1962 that I bought last year, only one box of shells shot thru the piece. It was a safe queen for over forty years. I have the need for various types of 16 ga. loads needless to say. Oh, I forgot I hand load Hammer Double 16 ga. Brass shells and use smokeless powder (Unique) for my Fox B SXS that I use for CAS matches. With the brass shell you can really make a fine custom load, but you need alot of time. Its like I am retired so my hobby is reloading & shooting. |

Rick---Ballistic Products has a pamphlet/book titled "Loading the Sixteen Gauge" ( I think that's still the title). You will likely get varying opinions on the value of the work or its cost, but I have found that it is a useful addition to my reloading library. |
