I bought a digital scale at Cabela's and thought I'd weigh my guns. My 16 ga Nitro with 28" barrels and 15 " LOP weighs 7-7. My 12 ga. NID with 30" barrels and 14" LOP weighs 7-4! Removing the barrels/forends, the stock/actions were 3-9 and 3-3 respectively for the Nitro and NID. That seems like a lot even considering the longer stock on the 16 ga Nitro, What are the other factors at work?

How old is your Nitro ? On the whole the Nitro was much bulkier. Wood weights on ithacas varied greatly also. You got me thinkin now cause 2 of my favorites are a 1947 NID 16 - 28" and a 1940 Nitro 16 - 28" ---I'll have to weigh them in the morning Laughing The newer Nitros were a bit heavier after they changed the frame design. One would think the weights of your guns mentioned would reversed but you never know with good old Ithaca.

Spyder:

We had a discussion about this a few days ago over on the DG BBS. Rather than repeat it all, here's the link.

http://doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=45330&page=4#Post45330

If you follow the thread through, you'll see that the newer Nitros tend to be lighter than the older ones!

Hope this helps you!

I weighed my 16 Nitro with 30" barrels yesterday after reading the article on Nitros in the DGJ. The gun is 7 pounds even. It has the later "sculpted" frame. Yes, the barrels are 30" with two #4 chokes. I guess it was special ordered. Silvers
