I have noticed on other posts of help figuring out the origins of their sweet sixteen A5, if the serial number is on the bottom side of the receiver, A8001, is what it states, if this is not the serial #, can someone help me find it on the gun.
the barrel on left side shows- ** special-steel, do the two stars indicate the choke of the barrel?
thank you for any and all help, this gun was given to my wife's great grandmother for a birthday present, i think is the story not sure of the year of that, the gun has stayed in the family and was given to my wife recently. |

thanks again crew, yet another question as i waste away my work day.
i keep finding out more info on this gun from family members, the barrel was bent and then bent straight again, i know not great but it seems to shoot fine, i need to track down a different original barrel with no rib, unless you could get a ribbed barrel in 1957-58. I checked gunbroker and ebay, any other places to check?
thanks |

Barels can be bent and straightened......shoot some pattern sheets. If it shoots to point of aim and looks ok dont worry about the story of the bent barrel.
Barrels were bent to straighten them at the factory as the tubes were never straight right out of the machines anyway. There is a picture in the Shirley/Vanderlinden book on the A5s of a guy straightening barrels at the FN factory.
